In a significant move to mitigate the challenges faced by displaced Nigerians, the UNHCR has partnered with TGI Group to launch a three-year initiative aimed at creating over 10,000 jobs. This collaboration, primarily focused in Benue and Cross River States, seeks to empower more than 5,000 farmers, enhancing food security and fostering economic stability in a region heavily impacted by displacement.
This partnership aligns with the UNHCR's broader strategy to support vulnerable populations by promoting self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods. TGI Group's commitment to investing in local agriculture is crucial, as it not only provides immediate employment opportunities but also addresses long-term developmental needs. "This initiative represents a beacon of hope for thousands of displaced individuals and families, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity," said Aisha Mohammed, UNHCR’s Regional Representative for West Africa.
Looking ahead, this collaboration could serve as a model for similar projects across the continent, emphasizing the importance of private-public partnerships in addressing displacement and fostering resilience in communities facing ongoing challenges.
