Sokoto State is making significant strides in maternal and infant healthcare by launching the third phase of its Safe Delivery Initiative, which will upgrade 75 primary healthcare centers (PHCs). This initiative aims to reduce the high rates of maternal and infant mortality that have plagued the region. The state has set an ambitious target of ensuring 244 PHCs meet compliance standards to enhance healthcare delivery.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “We are committed to providing our women and children with the healthcare services they deserve, as their well-being is vital for the future of Sokoto.” The upgrades will include better facilities and trained personnel, directly addressing the critical gaps in healthcare access.

As Sokoto progresses with this initiative, it serves as a model for other regions facing similar challenges. The commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure not only addresses immediate health concerns but also fosters long-term societal benefits. With continued investment and community involvement, Sokoto's initiative could significantly change the landscape of maternal health across Nigeria.
