In a strategic move to bolster agricultural productivity, Vice President Kashim Shettima has launched the distribution of 515,720 bags of fertiliser, aimed at supporting 128,930 smallholder farmers across 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory. This initiative, part of the National Agricultural Development Fund’s (NADF) Renewed Hope Farm Initiative, seeks to address food security and enhance the livelihoods of farmers in Nigeria.
Shettima emphasized the importance of this intervention, stating, “We are committed to empowering our farmers with the resources they need to thrive in a challenging economic landscape.” This distribution is expected to significantly improve crop yields, especially in a country where the agricultural sector plays a critical role in economic stability and job creation.
The NADF's initiative comes at a crucial time when many farmers face rising costs and supply chain disruptions. By ensuring access to essential fertiliser, the government aims to mitigate these challenges and promote sustainable farming practices. As Nigeria continues to grapple with food inflation and agricultural deficits, the effectiveness of this intervention will be closely monitored, with hopes that it paves the way for a more resilient agricultural sector.
