In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, has dedicated two hectares of land to support the “A Million Tree Project.” This initiative, part of a broader commitment to combat climate change, mobilizes students and the local community in Delta State to plant a million trees over its duration.

The polytechnic's involvement marks a critical step in engaging young people in climate action and education about environmental stewardship. This is particularly vital as Nigeria faces increasing ecological challenges, including deforestation and desertification. "Our students are not just learning in the classroom; they are becoming active participants in the fight against climate change," said Dr. Ijeoma Chukwuma, the institution's Vice Chancellor.

Looking ahead, the success of this project could serve as a model for other educational institutions across Africa. By integrating practical environmental initiatives into academic frameworks, the Federal Polytechnic is not only addressing immediate ecological concerns but also fostering a generation of environmentally conscious leaders. This initiative could inspire similar actions nationwide, amplifying the impact of climate action across the continent.
