The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has taken decisive action in Kwara State by sealing 724 unlicensed pharmaceutical and patent medicine facilities, highlighting a growing concern over public health safety. This enforcement exercise, which aims to curb illegal operations, comes amid rising incidents of substandard medications circulating in the market, posing serious risks to consumers.
Registrar of the PCN, Elijah Mohammed, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, โWe cannot compromise the health of our citizens. Unlicensed outlets are a danger to public health, and we will continue to take necessary actions against them.โ The crackdown reflects a broader national strategy to regulate the pharmaceutical sector, ensuring that only certified establishments provide medicines.
Looking ahead, the PCN's aggressive enforcement signals a commitment to safeguarding health standards, but it also poses challenges for legitimate businesses that may struggle to comply with regulatory requirements. As the council intensifies its oversight, the onus is now on the public to remain vigilant and prioritize purchasing medications only from licensed providers to avoid potential health hazards.
