The directive comes as local authorities reported significant littering, exacerbated by traders neglecting proper waste management practices. Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Abiodun Abudu, stated, “We will not hesitate to close down markets that fail to comply with waste disposal regulations.” This firm stance signals the government’s commitment to maintaining environmental standards and public health.
Given the expressway's critical role in connecting major cities and facilitating trade, the government’s actions are necessary to prevent further deterioration of the area. As markets face potential closures, the onus is now on traders to adopt sustainable practices.
