The plight of pensioners in Nigeria has come under scrutiny as Charles Binitie, President of the National Public Administration Pensioners Welfare Association (NPAPWA), revealed that many retirees are still receiving a meager N30,000 monthly. This alarming figure, unchanged despite years of service, underscores the inadequacies of the current pension scheme, raising questions about the government's commitment to supporting its retired workforce.

Binitie stated, “It is disheartening that after dedicating their lives to public service, our pensioners are left to survive on such an amount.” This situation not only highlights the financial struggles faced by retirees but also reflects broader systemic issues within Nigeria's pension administration. With inflation and rising costs of living, the disparity between what pensioners receive and their basic needs is become increasingly untenable.

As Nigeria grapples with economic challenges, the government must prioritize reforms in the pension sector to ensure that retirees receive fair compensation for their contributions. Without immediate action, the plight of pensioners will likely worsen, further straining their ability to live with dignity in their retirement years.
