The Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) has raised alarms over the mounting pressures faced by businesses, particularly Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), due to the federal government's economic policies. As inflation surges and costs of essential goods rise, many enterprises struggle to adapt, impacting their sustainability and growth potential.
NECA's Director-General, Adewale Oshinowo, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "The burden on businesses has never been heavier, and without immediate intervention, we risk losing a significant portion of our economic backbone." The association highlights that the government's policies, often perceived as burdensome, are hampering the ability of MSMEs to thrive in a competitive market. With many businesses unable to absorb rising operational costs, layoffs and closures are becoming increasingly common.
Looking ahead, the potential for economic recovery hinges on the government's responsiveness to the plight of these enterprises. It is crucial for policymakers to reassess their strategies to foster a more conducive environment for businesses, ensuring that MSMEs can not only survive but also contribute to the nation's overall economic health.
