Kwara South Development Advocates have issued a stern warning to traditional rulers in the region, urging them to refrain from endorsing candidates in the contentious All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the House of Representatives. This call for neutrality comes amid rising tensions and allegations of irregularities surrounding the electoral process for the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke Ero constituency.
The APC primary has sparked significant controversy, with various factions within the party contesting the legitimacy of the results. In light of the situation, Kwaran civil society leaders are concerned that any endorsement by traditional rulers could exacerbate divisions and undermine the credibility of the electoral process. As noted by Adeola Adediran, spokesperson for the advocates, "Traditional rulers should maintain their neutrality to preserve communal harmony and foster a fair electoral environment."
Looking ahead, the need for impartiality among traditional leaders will be crucial in ensuring that the political landscape remains stable. As the nation approaches the general elections, fostering a fair and transparent electoral process will be essential for maintaining public trust in democratic institutions and enhancing political engagement among citizens.
