The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a mop-up examination for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), scheduled for June 13. This decision caters to candidates who encountered technical difficulties during the initial exam, ensuring that they have a fair chance to secure university admission.
The announcement follows widespread concerns regarding the integrity of the exam process. Many candidates reported issues such as server failures and inadequate testing facilities, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. JAMB’s Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, emphasized the importance of providing all candidates with equitable opportunities, stating, "We are committed to ensuring that no deserving candidate is left behind due to circumstances beyond their control."
This mop-up examination not only reflects JAMB's responsiveness to the candidates' plight but also highlights the ongoing challenges within Nigeria's education system. As stakeholders prepare for this pivotal date, the hope remains that technological and logistical improvements will prevent similar issues in future exams, fostering a more reliable assessment process for aspiring students.
