In a proactive response to increasing rejections of agricultural exports due to chemical residues, the Federal Government has established a Technical Working Group (TWG) within the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. This initiative aims to address the growing concerns among international markets regarding the safety and quality of Nigerian agricultural products.
The TWG will focus on developing comprehensive guidelines and protocols to ensure compliance with international standards, which have become increasingly stringent. The move comes as Nigeria grapples with the dual challenges of enhancing its agricultural export potential while safeguarding public health and environmental sustainability. Stakeholders have expressed optimism about the initiative. "This is a critical step towards restoring confidence in our agricultural exports," said Dr. Amina Bello, an agricultural policy expert.
As the global demand for safe and sustainable food sources rises, Nigeria's commitment to improving agricultural practices will be pivotal. By implementing rigorous standards, the government not only aims to boost export revenues but also to enhance food security at home, positioning the country as a competitive player in the global agricultural market.
