As millions of Nigerians embarked on Eid-el-Kabir journeys, the Abuja-Kaduna highway became a scene of chaos, with countless travelers trapped in severe gridlock. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported significant traffic congestion, prompting authorities to recommend alternative routes to ease the burden on the main highway.

The FRSC urged motorists to consider the Kaduna–Kachia–Maraban Kubacha–Jere–Bwari route as a viable option to bypass the gridlock. In a statement, FRSC spokesperson Bisi Kazeem emphasized the urgency of this advice, stating, “We are doing everything possible to manage the situation, but we encourage travelers to plan their routes carefully and avoid the congested areas.”

This annual pilgrimage home for many Nigerians coincides with the holiday rush, which has historically led to traffic challenges. As the government grapples with the implications of such congestion, it raises questions about infrastructure and planning in the face of growing population demands. Looking ahead, authorities must prioritize long-term solutions to improve road conditions and enhance traveler safety during peak seasons.
