Nigeria's Tin Can Island and Apapa ports have gained international recognition, being named among the top 20 most improved container ports globally, according to the 2025 Container Port Performance Index by the World Bank. This accolade marks a significant turnaround for these vital gateways, which have historically struggled with congestion and inefficiency.

Over the past five years, strategic initiatives, including infrastructure upgrades and digitalization efforts, have enhanced operational performance at these ports. The Nigerian government's commitment to improving port logistics has been pivotal in this transformation. "This recognition underscores our dedication to enhancing trade facilitation and positioning Nigeria as a logistics hub in West Africa," stated Hadiza Bala Usman, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority.

As the nation continues to refine its port operations, the focus must remain on sustaining these improvements. With increasing global trade demands, further investments in technology and infrastructure will be crucial for maintaining competitive advantages. The recognition of Tin Can and Apapa ports serves not only as a benchmark but also as a springboard for future advancements in Nigeria's maritime sector.
