The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a directive urging prospective female corps members to avoid applying henna on their fingers prior to their orientation camps. This advisory, shared on their verified X account, highlights concerns that henna may obstruct the identification process during registration and daily activities.

The NYSC's recommendation comes amid efforts to streamline operations and enhance security protocols within the corps. Henna, often used for decorative purposes, poses challenges as it can mask the natural fingerprint patterns required for identification. "We want to ensure that all corps members can be easily identified and that the registration process runs smoothly," stated Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the NYSC Director-General.

As the NYSC prepares for the influx of new members, this move underscores the organization’s commitment to maintaining order and efficiency. Looking ahead, the NYSC's emphasis on uniformity and compliance may set a precedent for future regulations regarding personal adornments, reflecting a balancing act between individual expression and institutional requirements.
